The current wave of change in packaging is due to the change in snacking habits. Three major consumer demands are making around in the markets pushing for packaging switches.
Clean label trend
The clean label trend is popular because of the transparency of added ingredients and nutrients provided to consumers. According to the transparency imperative 2018 study, 74% ( seven in ten shoppers) of consumers say they will switch brands if they get thorough information about the product. A sharp rise of 74% is registered in the Asia Pacific in the clean label market, making Asia Pacific the fastest growing market for clean label packaging in the world.
While creating a clean label packaging, it is important to plan the list of ingredients and different nutritional value your snack provides. Your clean label packaging should make the consumers feel that the snack they are eating is hygienic and healthy. This in return helps to create trust between the consumers and your brand.
Portion control packaging
Consumers are more conscious of the food they consume. More and more inclination towards a fit and healthy life is forcing businesses to provide a portion control packaging. Portion control packaging serves an idea that whatever a person is eating, is in a finite amount.
Portion control packaging is more famous amongst bakers. A single pastry piece accounts more sales than an entire cake. Portion control packaging if done right, can sell existing food in larger quantities. Pringle chips, Doritos, Coca-cola introduced a 100 calorie packaging based on the same concept.
According to the Institute of Grocery distribution, consumers also wanted a simplified explanation of portion size. And needed the packaging to look full in order to feel they were gaining value for their dollar.
Keeping it fresh and re-closable
Not just healthy and hygienic, consumers want their snacks fresh and their packaging compatible. Consumers who are constantly occupied with their work and a busy schedule, demand a packaging that keeps their snack fresh and one which is easy to re-close after grabbing a few bites.
Hershey’s introduced a packaging based on this trend for their Hershey’s waffle layer crunch cones.
